Foreclosure Prevention Services Program
The Foreclosure Prevention Services Program is geared toward assisting homeowners, with a mortgage situation involving their primary residence, who are either in foreclosure or facing foreclosure. The program services areas of Northern Brooklyn, including Bushwick, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint, as well as Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village and Liberty Park, Queens. The program offers free counseling and legal assistance in both English and Spanish.
To date, the Foreclosure Prevention Services Program has assisted over 450 clients faced with foreclosure actions, mortgage delinquency, impending resets on adjustable rate mortgages, the need for refinancing or reverse mortgages and issues related to predatory lending, through the use of loss mitigation tools and legal services.
The Loss Mitigation and Legal Services currently offered include:
Home Retention Workouts: Contacting the clients servicer on their behalf with appropriate third party authorization to discuss HAMP loan modifications, conventional loan modifications, repayment plans and/or forbearance agreements.
Voluntary Home Loss Workouts: Discussing alternatives for clients that cannot reasonably afford to keep their homes or do not wish to save their homes, such as short sales and deeds in lieu of foreclosures. Refinancing: Discussing loan products, terms, affordability, qualifying rations and/or reviewing initial loan disclosures already obtained.
Bankruptcy Referrals: Providing information and referrals to a reputable bankruptcy attorney. Litigation: Attendance at Settlement Conferences and also discussing possible litigation options including pro se assistance and guidance in answering foreclosure complaints and/or assistance obtaining pro bono legal counsel to file suit against a predatory lender. Complaints: Assisting a client in filing a complain with the appropriate regulatory authority.
The Foreclosure Prevention Services program also provides homeowners with debt counseling including budgeting, saving and responsible credit card use.

Homeownership Program
Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council offers pre-ownership counseling to prepare individuals for homeownership. The program assesses homeownership readiness, provides budgeting and credit counseling, offers information and assistance with financing the home, information and advice on maintaining a home and ones finances.
